23 Weeks (Minus 1 Day) and Maternity Clothing Revelations

With every passing week of this pregnancy I like to compare my bump to others out there on Flickr or through a Google image search. Some are prominent by 14 weeks, other women retain a nearly flat tummy. I have noticed that around 20 weeks or so everybody starts having a noticeable protruding bump that just lets everybody know 'I'm Pregnant.' I'm sort of envious at this point. My bump is definitely noticeable by me, especially when laying down, but otherwise it just sort of looks like I have a jiggly beer gut increasing around my mid section. I'm pondering whether other firmer bumps are aided by Bella Bands or tight camisoles to accentuate the area. Maybe I was hoping for too much and expecting baby E to take over some of the fat I had stored before she entered the picture.
I decided today was the day I'd finally splurge and pick out some maternity clothes. My sister is a raving fan of Motherhood's secret fit belly pants. At first glance they look...odd. The band reaches as high as the boob crease and you'd think it might be hot and uncomfortable. I've actually found that the underbelly bands are constricting and unflattering. I end up with a overlfowing muffin top. Sexy. I've come to realize in order to look pregnant, you have to shop pregant. Here are some essentials I found today that will (hopefully) last me the entire pregnancy and that will work postpartum as well.

  • Short sleeve side ruched T-I was skeptical at first since they were $20...for a plain cotton t-shirt? The ruching does wonders in the hourglass figure department. In contrast to most of their other tops that opt for empire waists this shirt hugs the body and hides muffin tops.
  • Short sleeve faux wrap dress-Cotton and light yet flattering and elegant. I love that it is cotton since it's summer here and gives me a more formal option to wear out. I got a cobalt blue version not shown on the website.
  • Secret fit belly leggings-Comfy :)
  • Sleep bras-Also 'around the house' bra. I'm sick of underwires digging into my ribs...
  • Nursing bras-These were on sale and I was shocked as to how big I had to buy mine. I'd definitely suggest going into store for this one since sizing is so important.
Now I can finally enjoy looking pregnant rather than schlumpy. :)
